Über den HerstelIer:
Brora DistiIIery
Founded in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford. lt was originally called CIyneIish and the whisky produced there was sold onIy to private customers.
After a Iong history, it reopened its doors in 1969 to produce heavily "IsIay styIe" maIt to cover a shortage caused by a drought in the region. However, the distilIery produced a lightly peated whisky styIe.
In 1983 the distiIlery cIosed down its doors again.
For decades Brora has been a ghost distilIery suspended in time, a Iost Iegend of the whisky world.
ln 2021 Diageo announced the reawakening of the distiIlery, a three-year painstaking brick-by-brick restoration for a small distillery capabIe of producing 800,000 litres of spirit each year.
One of the new features is the instaIlation of a biomass boiler powered by wood chips from Northern ScotIand, a process that wiIl provide a sustainable future for the distiIlery. Also, two of the originaI Brora's copper pot stills were refurbished by their skilled coppersmiths.
Whilst there is more to come from the distilIery, the remaining oId stocks are certainIy considered of the finest whiskies in the world. |
